THIS IS A HYBRID ROLE based in Greensboro, NC

The Sr. Database Administrator supports the administration, maintenance, and optimization of databases and data warehouses to ensure the security, integrity, and availability of the organization's data. Working under close supervision, this role assists with the design, development, and implementation of database solutions and provides day‑to‑day administrative support to ensure efficient departmental operations. Responsibilities include configuring database parameters, defining data repository and warehousing requirements, and ensuring data standardization and consistency.

The Sr. Database Administrator helps design, test, and implement strategies to improve database performance, capacity, and scalability. Acting as a liaison between database users, technical representatives, application administrators, and other stakeholders, this role ensures effective communication and data management. Additionally, the position supports the implementation of security measures to protect databases in compliance with organizational standards and regulations. The role also involves monitoring database performance, generating reports, and performing data backup and recovery processes using Database Management Systems.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support the administration, maintenance, and optimization of databases to ensure data security, integrity, and availability.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation to provide 24x7 support of database systems.
  • Design, develop, and implement database solutions as required.
  • Provide day‑to‑day administrative support for efficient system‑wide database operations.
  • Design and support data repositories working closely with Infrastructure team.
  • Work closely with Data Archivist to ensure regulatory compliance for medical data retention.
  • Design, test, and implement strategies to improve database performance, capacity, and scalability.
  • Act as a liaison between database users, technical teams, application administrators, and other stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and data management.
  • Participate in planning and implementing new systems and upgrades of existing systems in close cooperation with Project Management.
  • Support implementation of security measures to protect databases in compliance with best‑practice standards and regulations.
  • Monitor database performance, generate reports, and perform data backup and recovery processes using Database Management Systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
  • Level 2 or higher knowledge of MS/Sybase SQL language. Expert in SQL scripting.
  • Expertise in SQL Server high‑availability technologies.
  • Expertise in rapid response to database emergencies, including catastrophic failures.
  • Expertise in Disaster Recovery.
  • Expertise in database designs to properly segregate data from binary logs.
  • Expertise configuring tempdb to maximize performance.
  • Working familiarity with modern RDMS systems such as Oracle, Mariadb, SAP ASE and PostgreSQL.
  • Ability to keep current with evolving database technologies, tools, and best practices to improve skills and departmental operations.
Qualifications
  • MUST live within 1 hr driving distance to Greensboro, NC
  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems/Sciences, or a related field, with an emphasis on database design, development, and data management.
  • Excellent communication skills, healthcare knowledge preferred. Strong English language competency.
  • Minimum 3 or more years’ experience as a senior SQL Server DBA.
  • Strong background in database administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience with database migration, upgrades, and consolidation.
  • Significant Experience with backups, restores and recovery models as designer and process owner.
  • Experience working with Windows Server OS.
  • Significant experience with database design and troubleshooting.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Reliable high‑speed internet connection is required for all remote/hybrid positions.
  • Must have access to stable Wi‑Fi with sufficient bandwidth to support video conferencing, cloud‑based tools, and other online work‑related activities.
  • A HIPAA‑compliant work environment is required, including a secure workspace free from unauthorized access or interruptions, no use of public Wi‑Fi unless connected through a secure company‑provided VPN, and compliance with all applicable HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
